  • Give Yourself a Break, Get Adequate Sleep

If you have had a schedule of staying out late, going to parties, and having a full day of non stop action, you will have to make some adjustments. Getting the proper rest and taking time for yourself will be very important for you emotional, mental and physical well-being. Life has suddenly changed for you. Making those changes might add to your stress, but the fact is you are pregnant and you need to take care of yourself and your baby.

If you are working take advantage of your break time. Put on some good music and try to relax. If your surroundings allow you to, turn out the lights and chill for a few minutes. This will help rejuvenate you. Put your feet up especially during the last trimester. The feet and legs tend to have some swelling so it is important to get your feet up whenever possible. If you are in a job where you sit a lot, get up, move around and stretch. This will help the blood flow and get your brain clear.

Getting to bed at a decent time will help you wake up with more energy in order to start a new day. In the first trimester you will most likely be so tired by the time you get home from school or work that you will be glad to go to bed early. Listen to your body and rest when you need to. Getting 7 to 9 hours of sleep is an ideal goal. Sleeping on your left side allows the blood to flow better. Supporting your legs with pillows is also very comfortable. If you live with a house full of people, or a noisy neighborhood some earplugs might be a good investment if sounds bother you, and keep you awake.

Taking time for yourself is important for your emotional and mental well-being. If you had some hobbies before you got pregnant take the time to work on them. Pamper yourself once in awhile. Go get a massage (by someone that is certified in pregnancy massage) get a pedicure, or a manicure. If you have never had a facial you should try it. They are very relaxing, making you feel like you could fall asleep right on the table. If money is an issue you can get a great discount at a cosmetology school.

Listening to relaxing music, watching movies, reading books, hanging with friends, and taking the time to do something for someone else can be very rewarding. Star gazing is an amazing way to chill and relax. If you live outside of the city you will have no problem seeing the stars. If you live inside the city take the time for a drive and find a good spot to star gaze. If stars are not your thing find something that gives you a break, making you feel like there is not a care in the world for that 1 hour.

You will be amazed at how refreshed you feel when there is little noise and peace and calm for a short amount of time. Maybe spending some time at the lake or the ocean makes you feel calm and peaceful. Get away if you can! Life can be crazy and you feel like you are going a 100 miles a minute. Whatever your thing is, do it as often as you need to. The quiet moments are a great time to ponder and figure things out.
